Not sure what to plant or where to start? We'll help you design a garden that works, prepare the ground properly, and get every plant established the right way.
Good planting starts well before the plants go in. Greenman approaches every planting job as a proper project: we look at your soil, your space, what you want from your garden, and what will actually thrive in East Auckland's conditions. Then we give you honest advice on what to plant and where.
We handle the full job. soil preparation, fertilising, composting, weed mat installation, and planting everything in correctly. Whether you're starting from scratch, refreshing an overgrown bed, or adding something specific, we do it properly so plants establish quickly and stay healthy.
No jargon, no overselling. Just practical advice and solid work.
Plant Recommendations
East Auckland's coastal, warm-temperate climate suits a wide palette. Here's what we recommend most often.
Low-maintenance, wildlife-friendly and perfectly adapted to East Auckland. Pohutukawa, flax, kowhai, ti kouka, kawakawa, nikau and hebe all thrive here and require minimal water once established.
Create privacy quickly with proven East Auckland hedging plants: Griselinia littoralis, Photinia robusta, Murraya paniculata, Pittosporum tenuifolium and Lilly pilly. We advise on spacing and expected growth rates.
Add colour and texture with agapanthus, lavender, rosemary, hebes, ornamental grasses and subtropical species like hibiscus, bird of paradise and canna lily. We mix species for year-round interest and easy maintenance.
East Auckland's climate is ideal for citrus, feijoa, avocado, plum, apple, lemon and lime. We source healthy specimens, plant into prepared soil, and advise on pruning and feeding for maximum production.
Properties near the coast need wind and salt-tolerant species. Pohutukawa, flax, astelia, coprosma and certain grasses excel in exposed coastal conditions around Cockle Bay, Mellons Bay and Beachlands.
Got a garden bed that's tired, overgrown or just not working? We clear, prepare the soil properly, add weed mat and replant with a mix that will look great and stay manageable long-term.
We'll come out, look at your space, and tell you exactly what we'd do. Free consultation, no obligation.
